Sky TV set to the wrong TV region

Question

I have Sky HD and Sky Movies, but I find that the local news comes from the Meridian region and not the Anglia region. Why is this, and how can I get the right news?.

Why this happens…

In order for you to watch regional TV, the set-top box has to know which region you’re in. With a service like Freeview, it’s fairly straightforward, as it’s the transmitter that you point your aerial at that decides which regional news programme (and adverts) you get.

With Sky, it’s not that easy, as the Sky satellites cover the majority of the UK, and some parts of Western Europe. The way that Sky sort this out, is to use your postcode. When you sign up for Sky, your account is linked to a postcode, and that’s stored on your viewing card. That way, the set-top box knows which region you’re meant to be getting.

If you live in East Anglia, and have a postcode in that area, then Sky should have set your viewing card to the Anglia TV region. We’re guessing that either you’ve moved, or Sky has the wrong region set for you.

In either case, the way to fix the problem is the same.

How to change your region:

You’ll need to contact Sky Customer Services and get them to change the region at their end. They should then send an over-the-air message to your box and subscription card, and update it so that you can see the correct region.

It’s also worth noting that the other TV regions are still visible on Sky, so it’s possible for a Sky viewer in East Anglia to tune to the other TV regions and see what’s going on in other parts of the country.
