Sky+ HD with a Communal Dish

Question

I may be moving into a flat with a communal digital satellite dish for digital TV. Can I connect my existing Skyplus HD box to it and still record?

Our Answer

A Sky+ HD box should work with a communal satellite dish – although note that you need two feeds from the dish, not just one.

The Sky+ HD box has two inputs – the box needs two feeds so that you can watch one channel whilst you record a different channel.

Many communal flats only have one satellite point, not the two needed for Sky+ / Sky+ HD.

A single connection to the dish is fine if all you want to do is watch TV, but to be able to record reliably, you need the two feeds.
