Sky: The Sky+ Planner Keep Button

Question

How do I use the ‘Keep’ button on the Sky planner?

Our Answer

The ‘Keep’ button can be found on the Sky+ and Sky+ HD Planner and related to recording s that you’ve made on your Sky+ box.

A Sky+ box only has a limited amount of hard drive space, and when the box gets nearly full, it has to start making decisions.

If the box is full and you’ve scheduled a recording, by default the box will delete your oldest watched recording, to free space for the new recording. If you want to stop the Sky+ box deleting an important programme, you can select the programme and press the “Keep” button. The box won’t ever delete a programme that you’ve marked with “Keep”

Disk Management

The Sky+ box default setting is to useĀ  ‘Automatic’ Disk Management, meaning that it will start deleting the oldest watched programmes first when it needs space.

You can change the box settings so this doesn’t ever happen. To do this, go to the Settings menu – Look for the ‘Disk Management’ option, and change from ‘Automatic’ to ‘Manual’. The danger of using this setting is that if the box is full, no new recordings will be made until you free up some space.
