Sky box not responding to remote control

Question

Sky+ BoxOur Sky+ box requires a five minute pause after pressing the Sky button to switch on before pressing the Sky button again and then the box switches on. Sometimes it will switch on at the first press but the pause is more usual.

 

Our response

We’ve not heard of this before, so don’t have a quick answer. We’re guessing it’s either a problem with the box, or the remote control. Some things to check:

  • Make sure you’re switching on correctly. Normally, you turn on with the remote’s Power button (top right), not the Sky button. The Sky button is used to switch the remote from TV to Sky modes. Try pressing the Sky button immediately followed by the Power button
  • Try rebooting the box. Switch it off, then disconnect the power for 30 seconds. Sometimes switching off and on again clears a software problem
  • InsteadĀ  of pressing the Sky button to switch
  • Try switching the box on using the buttons on the Sky box, as opposed to using the remote control
  • Try using another Sky remote control, to see if there’s a problem with your existing remote.

It’s important to check if the problem is with the remote control, or the Sky box itself.

If it’s a problem with the box, and a reboot doesn’t fix it, then there may be a fault on the box. A call to Sky Customer Services may be in order.
