Replace Sky Dish to get Sky HD?

Question

I still have my original dish from basic Sky TV. I want to upgrade to Sky+ HD. Will I need to change my satellite dish? Will it affect the picture quality?

Our Answer

First off: Sky, Sky+ and Sky+ HD all use the same satellite dish type, and all point in the same direction. There should be no need to change your dish to get Sky+ HD

Assuming the dish and cabling are in good condition, the existing dish should be fine. If you want peace of mind, check the signal you’re getting at the moment using the Signal Strength option from Settings on your Sky box. If you get at least 50% or above, no problems at all.
Also note that if you get Sky+ HD, Sky will send someone out to install it (in most cases). You can check picture quality and signal while the engineer is with you

How to upgrade to Sky HD:

You can order an upgrade to Sky+ HD online at www.sky.com/shop/high-definition/home/upgrade-to-sky-hd
