Sky Picture Zoomed In

Question

We have a Sky HD box and we have changed a setting by mistake. The picture looks to be up too close, and when you bring up any info bars, they look too big.

Our Answer

If the entire picture looks like it’s zoomed in (the programmes and the info bar), then it’s more likely to be a setting on the TV than on the Sky box.

Your TV should be capable of being switched into different modes, to cope with different screen formats and ratios, such as 4:3 (standard) and 16:9 (widescreen). Many TVs have the option to zoom in, crop the screen or try to handle different picture sizes automatically. It’s likely to be one of these settings on the TV that’s to blame.

Check the TV Aspect Ratio Settings

Check the TV remote control and see if there is a button for zoom or aspect ratio. On many remote controls, the button may be labelled with a rectangular icon with two sets of arrows. Try this to scroll through the various zoom and aspect ratio settings.

If you get no luck, check the TV’s on-screen menu for Display / Picture settings, and look for anything relating to screen size / ratio or zoom.

Check the Sky Box Screen Settings

Less likely, it could be a setting on the box. You’ll find the settings that handle the on-screen display as follows:

  • Press the Services button
  • Select “Settings”
  • Select the “Picture” tab
