Channel Numbers to Tune Freeview Manually

Question

If we wished to carry out a manual set up on our built-in Freeview television, can you please advise the channel numbers for BBC and ITV in our region?

Our answer

You’re correct in that sometimes you may need to tune your Freeview receiver into channels manually. Most Freeview TV sets and set-top boxes allow you to enter in the UHF channel number manually, and instructions for doing this can normally be found in the Freeview receiver’s manual.

As for the channel numbers, you’re looking for a UHF channel number between 21 and 68. The number for the BBC and ITV services are different for each transmitter, so you need to work out which transmitter is the most appropriate one for you.

The best way of doing this is to use the UK digital TV reception predictor. From this site, enter your postcode, and it should list all of the available digital TV transmitters in range, plus their UHF frequencies.

The main BBC channnels are on Multiplex 1 (PSB 1):BBC A
The main ITV channnels are on Multiplex 2 (PSB 2): D 3 & 4

Look for the appropriate column, and find the UHF channel number for the transmitter in question, then tune your Freeview receiver to that channel number.
